Join local author Lesley Buxton on Friday, January 18th at the Penticton Public Library! Lesley will discuss the challenges of writing a memoir and give a few memoir inspired writing exercises. Lesley taught creative writing for many years in Ottawa and wants to help inspire others to record their stories for themselves and their families.
Her first book, One Strong Girl won the inaugural Pottersfield Prize for Creative Non-fiction. The memoir stems from her performance at This Really Happened at the Montreal Writer’s Festival and her blog: “Fall On Me, Dear” about mothering her daughter, India who suffered from a rare neurological disorder.
Her essays and short stories have appeared in leading Canadian magazines such as: Chatelaine, Today’s Parent, Hazlitt, The Fiddlehead, and The New Quarterly. In spring 2018, an excerpt of One Strong Girl appeared in Reader’s Digest. Her essay “Are You Still Married” was included in the Caitlin Press anthology “Love Me True”. Lesley currently lives in Penticton, BC. Please join us in welcoming her at the Library!
