John began piano lessons at the age of 6 and violin lessons at the age of 10. He maintained both instruments for a few years and then decided to pursue the violin as his main instrument. He completed his Bachelor of Music Degree and Certification for teaching music in public schools at the University of British Columbia in 1982 and has been in the music teaching profession ever since.
His career began in Prince George where he played Principal 2nd violin in the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and taught at the Prince George Music School for 18 years. He then moved to Kelowna with his family in 2000. He now is a core member of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and he teaches violin in various music and private schools in Kelowna and Penticton. Some of his former students currently hold title positions in major Canadian orchestras.
